“Love is the oxygen of life; it’s what we all want and need most. When we love completely, we feel alive.” Tony Robbins
Every year some of my closest girlfriends and I get together for our annual Goddess Photo Shoot. This time we decided to focus on expressing our deepest fears through images to help us overcome them. At the time of the photo-shoot I was undergoing having to make a serious decision – to keep living my current life with a great full-time job at a community college and close to family and friends or to take a path less traveled of adventure, faraway lands and creating a life with my beloved. This choice did not stem from fantasies and dreams but, from necessity (my fiancée’s citizenship status was changing and we had to make a choice to continue our relationship or not). Needless to say, I was panicking inside – in complete freak out mode! My mind said to stay with the comfort of my life now but, my heart said GO! Go live and go love! At the time this photo was taken, I was having this internal battle of giving myself permission to no longer hold back because of fear and ego but, to let go and surrender to what life was presenting to me. To ultimately be free and chose what I want not what everybody else wants for me. Love and connection is one of the basic needs of any human. Tony Robbins says, “Love is the oxygen of life; it’s what we all want and need most. When we love completely, we feel alive, but when we lose love, the pain is so great that most people settle on connection, the crumbs of love. You can get that sense of connection or love through intimacy, or friendship, or prayer, or walking in nature. If nothing else works, you can get a dog.” Fast forward to the present and I’ve made my decision….I choose love! This was not any easy road. There were peaks and valleys, ups and downs, a breakup because of fear, reuniting because of love, lots of tears and laughs along the way.
The love and relationship I have now is one I have been waiting and preparing for my entire life…a partner that aligns with my core values, whose companionship I adore, who I trust, who is my partner in growth, and brings out the best and highest in me (as I do for him). So, we are off to Asia. For 2015, we will be in Thailand, Laos, Indonesia, Philippines and Fiji as we stay open to love, growth, magic, inspiration, adventure, community, beauty and eventually, finding our new home.
